April 2, 1930 – January 4, 2024
Born in Little Italy to Steve and Katie Stagnaro, Andy excelled in baseball at San Diego High, attended Cal on an athletic scholarship, and served in the Coast Guard. At University Heights rec center he noticed Cecelia “Jean” Korander and proposed a while later.
Andy was a navigator in the tuna fishing fleet for 30 years. He obtained his ham radio license to patch valued calls from the crew to home. Later, you could set a clock by his daily activities: walking at Liberty Station and exercise class at the Y. His schedule included breakfast at Perry’s with Washington Elementary classmates, Italian lunches with “the boys”, and touching base with friends by phone or visits.
Andy was devoted to family. He was pre-deceased by Jean, his wife of 55 years, sisters Lillian and Elsie, and sons-in-law John Wilder and Robert Devlin. He is sorely missed by his children Cecelia Devlin, Steve Stagnaro (Teresa), Lucy Wilder, Janet Stagnaro (Vincent Cruzen), 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and dear companion Kitty Ochipinti.
Services are Monday, January 29th at Sacred Heart Church of Ocean Beach. Rosary at 10:30am, funeral Mass at 11:00am. Reception to follow in church hall. Entombment January 30th at Holy Cross. In lieu of flowers consider donations to T. Claude and Gladys B. Ryan Family YMCA (Peninsula Y).
