Andrew Corrao passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018, one year from the date that his beloved wife, Dorothy passed away. He is predeceased by his brothers Jack and wife Helen, Peter and Frank.
Andy is survived by his son, Sam Corrao and his wife Gayle, their children Kathryn (Wolff), Christine, Andrew and his great-granddaughters Samantha, Ella, and Dorothy.
Andy was born October 18, 1920 to Mary Corrao (Crivello) and Salvatore Corrao. He attended Washington Elementary School, Roosevelt Jr. High and San Diego High School. During World War II, he joined his father as a tuna fisherman on their boat, “The Rex.” After the war, he began work at Convair/General Dynamics and worked his way up to the position of line supervisor. He worked on the Atlas missile project. He retired from Convair after 29 years and began working at the Del Mar Race track as an usher and a gateman. He retired after 30 years at age 89. After his retirement from Convair, he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Italy, China, Alaska, Hawaii and the Panama Canal.
Andy loved to play golf and was one of the founding members of the Italian American Golf Association. He loved to cook and spent many years cooking meals for the Italian Catholic Federation at St. Vincent de Paul church in Mission Hills. He also enjoyed cooking dinners with his buddies at the New Fishmongers established at St. Vincent’s in 1985.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, January 22nd at 10 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, San Diego, with a reception to follow at the church hall. We welcome all to attend and celebrate Andy Corrao’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Seasons Hospice
