ALVIN ENDOZO MALABANAN
April 17, 1971 to August 4, 2022
Alvin Endozo Malabanan, of San Diego, California passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug 4, 2022.
He was only 51 years old.
Alvin was born on April 17, 1971, at the University of the East Hospital in Manila, Philippines the fourth of five children of Eulogio (Leo) and Imelda (Emy) Malabanan. At the age of one, the Malabanan Family moved to San Diego California and settled in their home in Mira Mesa where Alvin attended elementary and junior high school. He then attended Mt. Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos and then moved to Channel Islands High School in Oxnard and graduated in 1989.
After high school, he attended various trade schools to sharpen his interests in “fixing and building anything.” He took auto mechanic, auto body repair, welding, and ship building courses. Alvin was also “self-taught.” He learned a lot of tips and tricks by watching “How to Videos” on “YouTube” or just by helping other craftsmen. He did carpentry, flooring, roofing, tiling, cementing, painting and dry walling.
Over the span of his professional career, Alvin worked for Air Makers Air conditioners, NASSCO Shipbuilding, Mira Mesa Village Properties, MCAS Miramar Auto Hobby Shop, and Vista Environmental Information Solutions. However, mostly everyone knew Alvin for his “handyman” and “auto mechanic” skills that he did for family and friends.
If he wasn’t working or spending time with his daughters, you can find Alvin in the yard gardening or in his garage tinkering with his tools, bikes, motorcycles, and cars. He always made time to help others and did not expect any payment in return.
Alvin was an awesome and devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Alvin is survived by his two beautiful teenage daughters, Clarissa Marie and Samantha Leigh and their mother, Tracy Schnoebelen; his mother Imelda, brother Joe and sisters Christine, Grace and Eleanor. There are several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, extended family members and friends that will also miss his kind heart, infectious smile and quirky laugh dearly.
Alvin has a huge, kind and generous heart even until the end of his days on earth. Since his father’s passing in 2015, Alvin has been the main caretaker of his mom, Imelda. He drove her and her friends to church on a daily basis, colored her hair, took her to her doctor appointments and errands. He did anything and everything he could for his two daughters Clarissa and Samantha. He did the most selfless act by being an organ donor and giving the opportunity for others to live! His heart, liver, kidneys and lungs will continue to live on in others.
Alvin, you have made a difference to so many. Please know you have inspired others with your selfless actions of love and kindness while you were with on earth.
To celebrate Alvin’s life, a Funeral Mass is held on Thursday, 25 August at 10:30am at our Lady of Mount Carmel, 13541 Stoney Creek Road, San Diego, CA 92129 followed by Interment Service at El Camino Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to offset funeral costs and start a college fund for Alvin’s daughters.
