Alejandra "Anday" Maraan Peji was born on April 27, 1938 to Eugenio and Cresencia Maraan of Mendez, Cavite, Philippines. Her birthday, however, was officially recorded as June 6, 1938.
(Trivia: Anday started celebrating both birthdays yearly since discovering this. Double blessings!)
She married Melanio Novicio Peji (+) on March 11, 1953, and together, they had eight children: Eloisa, Leonardo (+), Adoracion, Renato, Elsa (+), Elizabeth, Ma. Elena, and Eleanor.
Anday worked different jobs to support her family. She woke up at the crack of dawn to sell fruits and vegetables at the markets in Mendez and Indang . She cooked merienda to sell in front of their house - goto, puto, kutsinta, totong, and a lot more. At the day's end, she gave away unsold foods for free. Thus, she was well-known for her generosity and kindness.
To further help the family finances, Anday also accepted laundry jobs and washed clothes along the rivers in Indang. Through hard work and perseverance, Anday and Lanio were able to provide good education for all their children. All of them finished their studies, secured jobs, and helped support the family in turn.
Anday eventually migrated to the US in 2007 where she retired and became a citizen. She lived a simple and happy life. She loved cooking for her family, going to the market, organizing the house, and tending to her flowers and vegetables in the garden. Her favorites were roses and orchids. She also loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
And oh, how she loved talking to family and friends! There wasn't a single day when she didn't call anyone. She loved telling stories and listening to them too! She spent hours on the phone talking and video calling, especially with her family in the Philippines. Despite the distance, she made everyone feel her presence through her constant calls and check-ins.
Anday was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. To her loved ones, she is the model of hard work and determination, of patience and perseverance, of respect and integrity, of humility and faith. Bust most importantly, she taught her children and grandchildren the value of family and deep connection. Anday may have played many roles in life, but everyone looked up to her as the family's pillar, the glue that held everyone together.
After living a full and blissful life, Anday was called home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2023 at the age of 84. Anday is loved by many. Her wisdom, humor, compassion, patience, love, and presence will be sorely missed. She will live and be remembered through her legacy - her family - with whom her love keeps flowing and overflowing.“
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
