Al was a great mentor and warrior to many sailors for the years I served along side him. He stood by your side no matter what. R.I.P. 

We were devastated to learn of the loss of our brother, Al. We all have so many fond memories of Al coming out to events and supporting his fellow Warriors through their journeys. He was a fantastic ally and incredible friend to us all. Our sincere condolences to the Salas family.

Salas was an amazing sailor and it was my absolute pleasure to be stationed with him on the USS Oldendorf.

We served together on the USS Oldendorf. He was a great guy. Loved his job and was quick with humor. He will be missed.

While serving on the Oldendorf, AL was always the voice of reason. If there was a problem he would never give you the answer. Al just simply asked you a question, he made me challenge myself to be better. He helped open my mind to stop doubting myself. His encouragement made me better at my job. To this day I continue with that mentality. Thank you!
