Alanson Allen Mason M.D. and WW 2 pilot received his last departure orders on December 20, 2020, just 6 weeks short of his 100th birthday and our 50th wedding anniversary. He was born in St. Louis Mo. to Carl H. Mason and Rosemary Tennyson Mason, but spent most of his life in Southern California. He attended Franklin High School in Los Angeles, CA and excelled as a member of the gymnastics team. He then attended Pasadena City College where he developed his life long love of skiing. He enrolled in University of Southern California in 1942, but quickly enlisted in the Army Air Force where he served until 1945. He returned to USC, completed his undergrad courses and enrolled in their School of Medicine. He became a distinguished orthopedic surgeon and had a rewarding career at Orthopedic Hospital of Los Angeles, where he also served a term as Chief of Staff. After many successful years of his practice in Los Angeles County, he moved to San Diego and continued a partial retirement at Scripps Encinitas and Scripps La Jolla. Lance leaves behind his loving wife, 4 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grand children as well as all his beloved Trojan family. He served his country, his patients, and his family with devotion. He was always a true friend and gentleman.
A memorial may be held in future, but for now, leave your thoughts, memories or special photos on the site provided by El Camino Memorial.
Thank you for your many cards and flowers. I know for sure how deeply he will be missed.
