Joylynn "Joy" (Hooks) Maldonado was born on November 22nd, 1954, in beautiful Los Angeles, California. She was the fourth of seven children born to her parents William and Aralia Hooks. Her siblings are Ingrid (Hooks) Poma, Tyrone Hooks, Cecil Hooks, Sandra Hooks, Debbie Hooks, and Arealia Hooks.
In 1971, Joy married and welcomed her first daughter, Mwanashe "Shea" Maldonado. Sadly, she was widowed soon after they married. Later, in 1973, she married Walter Breland and welcomed their two sons, Cornelius Breland and Dr. J "Jimmie" Breland, and daughter Vivian Breland.
Joy was loved by all who knew her and cherished by those whom she loved. She had many first, second, and third cousins and though she may have not met all of them, they knew they had a cousin named Joy and they were loved by her. She loved her family fiercely.
Joy loved hosting her famous poker parties, loved watching her favorite shows: Young and the Restless, which was never missed, and Judge Judy, her personal Supreme Court. She loved her two dogs Rusty and Precious immensely.
She is survived by her husband Lavele Guidry, her two sons Cornelius and Jimmie, daughter Vivian, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, five siblings, and a large extended family, who will miss her deeply. She's now reunited in Heaven with her beautiful daughter Shea, who preceded her to Glory, her beloved sister Sandra, and her best friend Marilyn. May she rest in God's peace until we arereunited with her in heaven.
