Fernando B. Nunez was called home to be with our Lord peacefully on Friday, August 14th, surrounded by his loving family. Fernando (“Junie”) was born in Fromberg, Montana to Fernando M. and Natalia Nunez and spent his early childhood in the town of Fromberg, just outside Billings. His family then moved to California. Fernando was raised in San Bernardino where he attended school and made it his home. Fernando was the brother in the middle of 7 other brothers (Raymond, Rafael, Julio, Tony, Roy, Ruben, Gabriel) and 2 sisters (Amparo, Carmen).
He worked throughout the Inland Empire, first at Kayser-Roth Hosiery, then at Elliott Precision Block Co., Ameron Steel, and Angelus Block Co. before retiring in 2002. Fernando enjoyed playing his guitar and singing songs for many years and for many people. First, with the fabulous “Nunez Bros.” local dance band of 1965-70, then with his “Trio Nunez” brothers. Very artistic, his hobby was creating various pieces of art in his outdoor workshop thru carving, welding, and building. There was nothing he could not make himself. Fernando enjoyed 4-wheeling and working on his jeeps. His favorite sport was basketball. Always a Lakers fan, he enjoyed playing the game on Saturday mornings well into his 50’s. Most of all, Fernando always loved gathering with family & friends to celebrate life and enjoy each other. Fernando is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jennie; His son Freddy and daughter Michelle. His other daughter Lorraine went to be with our Savior in 2013. Fernando has 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
As in his life by faith, Fernando did not leave any one of us behind. Instead, he went ahead of you, just to see if he could help our Lord Jesus prepare a place for you…“since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” (Hebrews 11:40)
“Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 6:23)
