July 16, 1942—January 27, 2024
Felipe C. Botello, affectionately known as Hun, Honey, Dad, Papa and by most as Phil Botello, entered this world on July 16, 1942, a beacon of light born to Luz and Teresa Botello in San Bernardino, California. On January 27, 2024, surrounded by the love of his children—Phillip Jr./Sonny, Steve, Davey, Raquel/Rocky, Steven Jr, little Steven Z—and the everlasting love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Frances, fondly referred to as Kica Botello, Phil peacefully departed this world.
Phil was not merely an extraordinary husband, father, and Papa; he was the embodiment of all the qualities one could wish for in a family's patriarch. Strong yet gentle, exceptionally intelligent yet humble, protective yet welcoming—Phil was a man who defied easy description. Honest, honorable, and overflowing with love, he left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to share his company.
His unconditional and tender love, a force felt by everyone in his presence, was most palpable to his lifelong love, Kica, or his "Babes," as he lovingly called her. The twinkle in his eye was a testament to her proximity, a love story that spanned over six decades.
Phil was the eldest among his siblings—Art, who passed away in 2021, Margie (Jess) Gonzales, Yoli (Ray) Mendieta, and Manuel (Dela) Botello. His legacy lives on through his soulmate and life partner, Kica Botello, as well as his children Phillip/Sonny (Corrina) Botello, Steve (Mona) Botello, Davey Botello, and Raquel (Eric) Ramirez. Through them, Phil's spirit endures in his 14 grandchildren and lots of great-grandchildren.
Beyond his devotion to family, Phil dedicated 48 years of his life in service to CSI/Kaiser Steel, progressing from being a Burner, Electrical Apprenticeship, to an Electrician, later becoming a Supervisor and Computer Programmer. His crowning achievement was programming the Continuous Pickle Line, a role that brought him both pride and challenges, often requiring his expertise in the wee hours of the night when others couldn't troubleshoot issues.
Phil's impact extended far beyond the workplace; his loved ones will keenly feel the absence of his love and guidance in their careers, education, and day-to-day lives. The void left by his passion for the Yanks, NFL, and even politics will be deeply felt. His warm love and unwavering support for his loved ones aspirations will be profoundly missed.
A good man, Phil set a standard for his family to aspire to, leaving behind a legacy that will echo through generations. His memory will forever be a guiding light, a reminder of the boundless love and kindness that defined his remarkable life.
