My memory of Evelyn valardi is very limited from my two encounters with her and her husband as their audiologist, Loma Linda VA hospital back around 2011/2012 when I fit Mr Velardi with hearing aids.
Both were extremely friendly with good conversation followed with a promise of an autographed picture of Ernest (which I received and treasure to this day).
Evelyn and her husband were so unassuming, down to earth people....the real deal and wish we had more people with these qualities today.
Truly wish I had known them many years before.
May they all rest in peace...


I met Evelyn Borgnine Velardi at the Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda back in 2010. She and her husband were so kind and were so proud of Ernest. They both spoke of how happy and giving Ernest was and eventually gave me an autographed picture of him. I urged her to convince Ernest to get care at our VA hospital in Loma Linda since I felt he would get better care from me as his audiologist as did her husband!😅
I am glad to have met Evelyn and her husband but could see both were not in the best of health. So sad to see such good people pass....

 First I want to say my condolences on the loss of your mom. At this time this is the story I would like to impart to you. Back in the 1960s, when my father was in the Navy he received a transfer to California. During our time there, my mother met Evelyn through my brother Frank. My brother Frank and Evelyn’s son ,Gene, were friends. One day Frank told my mom that Evelyn’s brother was Ernest Borgnine. My mom didn’t believe it and asked Evelyn and she said it was true. One day Evelyn invited my mom over. She actually came and picked her up and my brothers as well, including me. While we were at Evelyn’s house the the doorbell rang. In came Ernest Borgnine. My mom’s memories of that were that he was wonderful to all of us, talked with all of us and signed an autograph for all of us. My mom and Evelyn kept in touch for a long time but then,  when we moved back to New York,  they drifted apart. My mom wrote down many things over the years which we have now transcribed into a book of sorts. This is one of her fond memories. If Gene ever reads this I am on Facebook. Please contact me.  My mom passed due to Alzheimer’s on November 16, 2018. Frankie is alive and well.

Evelyn was the best Grandma anyone could ever ask for. My Nonna Joked with me, laughed with me, cried with me, and loved me! I'm sad that I won't have the chance to hug her one last time, or tell her I love her, but she's in my heart and that's where she'll stay forever. I'm going to miss her amazing turkey sandwiches, listening to her sing while she did the dishes or wiped down the counter, and I'll miss hearing her call me "Balla". I'm glad she won't be suffering anymore. Rest Sweetly Nonna. I love you with all my heart. - Tay
