Elijah Walker Jr. was born on September 20, 1940, in Greenville, Mississippi. He was one of seven siblings. He came to California in 1962 along with his brother George, and the rest of the family soon followed. Elijah was a resident of Rialto, California.
Shortly after his move to California, Elijah met and later married the love of his life Shirley. Elijah and Shirley were married for 51 years. He loved being a husband and father. He took seriously and honored his role as husband, provider and caregiver to wife and their immediate and extended families.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing, and took great pride in his home and yard and grew many fruit trees in his backyard. He prided himself on having “The best lawn on the block,” Elijah showed his skills as a boxer at an early age and became a Golden Glove Boxer and was lifelong boxing fan. He was nicknamed Junior by his parents and siblings, and he was known as the fun-loving Uncle June by his nieces and nephews.
He worked for Precision Specialty Metals in Los Angeles, CA for 30 years, where he retired in 2000.
He passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023, with family by his side. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sonya L. Henry; parents Elijah Walker Sr. (Harriet); brothers Clarence Wilder and George L. Walker; sister; Rosie L Wilder.
Elijah leaves behind to cherish his legacy his wife Shirley J. Walker; grandson, Tyrell Henry (who lovingly calls him Papa); sisters, Joann G. Roberts (Faron) and Demetria D. Thomas; brother, Melvin L. Wilder (Trammell) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
All of whom will continue to be blessed with the memories of his love, generosity and kindness.
A memorial service for Elijah will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, 570 East Highland Ave, San Bernardino, California 92404.
