Retired teacher, Carla Vargas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away from complications of cancer on April 6th, 2023 at the age of 67. Predeceased by her parents, Carl Chaplin and Hilda Danner, Carla was born on July 15, 1955 in San Bernardino, California where she continued to reside.
Carla completed her Bachelor’s degree at Cal State San Bernardino and became a passionate teacher in 1995. Soon after, she gained her Master’s degree in Education. She touched many lives at Cole Elementary in Highland where she was employed for her entire 20 year teaching career. Carla will be remembered for her kindness towards her students, her quick wit, her willingness to mentor others, and her selfless dedication to excellence in teaching.
Carla was known for her love of the beach, car trips, gardening, and travel. Her inquisitiveness in all that Nature has to offer was infectious. A lifelong learner, she delighted in discovering banana slugs under leaves or seaside lichens. She had a unique sense of humor. She empowered others with her rare kindness and genuine way about her, forming beautiful friendships and touching countless lives. She was a giving and compassionate person who exhibited fierce strength and courage.
Carla’s love of life and treatment of others did not come to an end with her passing. Instead, her loved ones will continue to honor her life by living their lives to the fullest.
Carla is survived by her soulmate and husband, David Vargas; her son, Jared Neill; grandson, Kane Neill; daughter, Christine Haws, and several relatives.
A Visitation will take place on April 24th from 5:00-8:00 pm at Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino. Funeral Services will be held April 25th from 12:00-1:00 pm., Graveside service at 1:15 pm with a reception to follow.
