A man of faith, integrity, and courage Armando Cantu Jr.’s love of life and brave spirit lives on. Armando departed this life peacefully to be with the Lord on November 18, 2021, in the line of duty at the age of 43. Always caring for others and protecting and serving his fellow man. Armando is now promoted to detective in the sky. Armando known fondly as Mando and Junior to close friends and family was born on September 12, 1978, in San Diego CA to Armando Cantu Sr. and Debra Cantu. Armando was a devoted son, husband, and father. After graduating from Conroe High school in 1997, Armando answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. In February of 1999, Armando married the love of his life since 7th grade Beta Ka’Shaun Cantu. Always striving for excellence Armando served bravely in the United States Marine Corps for eight years; during this time, he courageously served in Iraq during Operation Iraq Freedom.
In 2001, Armando’s life was forever changed when he gave his life to Jesus Christ. Armando answered the call of ministry and faithfully served in various auxiliary ministries within the church community. Armando became a member of The True Vine Fellowship Ministries in 2001, he served on the board of trustees, volunteered with the men’s Higher Life outreach program, volunteered as an active parent volunteer for the youth department, and mentored fellow veterans in the Armor of God program (leading veterans and service members to Jesus Christ through fellowship and bible study). In 2007, Armando Cantu was ordained as an Elder and engaged in spreading the gospel on various platforms, arenas, conferences, etc.
Armando joined the Sheriff’s Department on April 21, 2007. Upon graduating with the 168th Academy Class, Armando was assigned to the West Valley Detention Center and the Central Detention Center. In 2008, Armando was reassigned to the Morongo Basin Station. In 2013 Armando answered the call of fatherhood and welcomed his beloved son Samuel Cantu. In 2014 Armando graduated from Kaplan University with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 2018 Armando was promoted to Detective and reassigned to Yucaipa Station. In 2019, he was reassigned to the Narcotics Division where he worked in the DEA Task Force and the Marijuana Suppression Team. Armando served his fellow man and his community unselfishly; his faith, courage, bravery, light-hearted spirit, and his loving heart left a beacon of light for all in the community. Reminding all who loved Armando to stand up and answer the call.
Armando was preceded by grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Left to cherish Armando’s memory: his wife Beta Ka’Shaun Cantu, son Samuel Elijah Cantu, parents Armando and Debra Cantu, brother Daniel Cantu, The True Vine Fellowship Ministries church family, and San Bernardino Sheriff Department.
He fought his fight, he ran his race, he finished his course, and he shall receive his crown. Always remember to answer the call.
