Angel Gerardo Green

Angel is survived by his beloved wife of five years Sandra Green, his mother Susan Barrera, his brother and sister Ray and Elaine Corral, his father Gerald Green, his stepfather and step siblings, Tony, Philip, and Lisa Macias, his mother and father-in-law, Osbaldo and Dolores Castro and brother and sister in-laws, Diego, Cristina, and Viridiana Castro, and so many other family members who loved him dearly.

He was born in San Bernardino, California on November 6th, 1996 to Susan Barrera and Gerald

Green. Angel graduated from Eisenhower High School in 2014. He was a varsity member of

cross country, soccer, and track. He excelled as a track and cross country runner consistently obtaining first place recognitions, and setting multiple record times for his school and in the CIF XC Invitationals. He ran the LA Marathon several times and PR’d at 3:05:44 at the age of 16.

Angel joined the Army the following year in May of 2015. It was always his dream to become a soldier. He married Sandra on June 27th 2016, and moved to Evans Mills, New York, where they lived and began their life together.

Upon completion of OSUT he was assigned to 4-31 IN, 2 BCT, 10th MTN and served the entirety of his Army career in 2nd PLT, Bravo Company. He completed the Barnes and Messer Challenge in 2016 and attended and graduated Air Assault School in 2017. Angel served as a Grenadier, Automatic Rifleman, Radio Telephone Operator, Team Leader and Squad Leader during his time in 4-31. He deployed with B Co 4-31 during the 2018-2019 deployment to Afghanistan, in support of Operations Resolute Support and Freedom Sentinel, and served as an Automatic Rifleman during the first half before taking charge as a Team Leader. During this deployment, his Platoon along with a Platoon from Delta Company began receiving direct, hostile fire while forward on mission, they suppressed, and destroyed the enemy combatants, earning the Combat Infantryman’s badge. In June of 2019 he attended and passed the Promotion Board while still deployed. Angel attended and graduated the BLC in March of 2020, and was then pinned E-5 on 01 May 2020.

Angel served a second tour in Afghanistan November 2020 through August of 2021 in support of Operation Resolute Support and Freedom’s Sentinel and served as a Squad Leader. While on deployment he attended and passed yet another Promotion Board and was pinned E-6 in April of 2021. He aided in the security and withdrawal of many US citizens and Afghan refugees during the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. In Garrison he contributed to the licensing of over a hundred soldiers across the Battalion as one of Bravos Company Licensed Instructors/ Licensed Examiners. He also held another additional duty as Bravo Company’s Unit Movement Officer and contributed to the successful deployment of Bravo Company property, forward, to Afghanistan this 2020-2021 deployment.

Angel’s long term goals included attending and graduating Ranger School, and acquiring orders to serve a broadening assignment as an RI, earning his EIB the next time he was able to participate, earning the rank of Command Sergeant Major, and retiring from the United States Army no sooner than he was able to serve his time as a Brigade Command Sergeant Major.

Angel was happiest lost in the middle of the woods with a can of PBR in his right hand and Tyler Childers playing in the background. He was also a craft-man who would take on woodworking projects and build furniture around his home and for his friends as a hobby. Angel leaves behind a trail of beautiful memories that we will always cherish and each hold in our hearts. Everyone he knew and met had their own special and unique relationship with him, and he always knew how to make those he cared about feel special, loved, and protected. You never had to worry about anything as long as he was around. The void in our lives will never be filled. He was an amazing and inspirational person to all. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on October 2nd at Mt. View Mortuary and Cemetery, located at 570 E Highland Ave., San Bernardino, California.
