Cynthia, and familia,

I am so sad to learn of Adele's death, as she was a dynamic, energetic force of nature who was always thinking of others and ready with questions about your future.  In 1978 I began Mexican Folklorico dancing with her group after being introduced to her by a pair of classmates from my high school, Aquinas.  We were only to learn two dances (she taught us three) for a school talent show, and then we would move on with our lives:  After the talent show, most of us from a group of seven or eight remained at least one more year.  I remained with the group until my mother's death in 1978.  I will always have fond, kind memories of my time with the group and becoming friends with Mrs. Mendez, as we called her.  She was a sweet wonderful friend, mentor, and, teacher for so many of us.  She gave her time to everyone even when they did not ask for it, and made time for anyone who needed her counsel.   She always made sure that if the group could not be paid at an engagement, that we would at least be fed, and on many occasions, both.  I know that there are photos from that era, but I do not have any to share, and I wish that I did, with much disappointment.  It has been an honor and a privilege...

My beautiful mother was exemplary in the guidance given to me as I grew up. She held stead fast and strong always guiding me with her strong morals and values. Her wisdom was cherished by me and all those who sought her intellect and compassionate heart.

Always a happy person, she loved all who came into her life, whether it was her students, family or new acquaintances and formed life long bonds.  Lucky were those who chose to be a part of her life. We all benefited in that she lit the candle of light in our own lives and for that we were all truly blessed.

God bless you mom. I for one will never let your memory fade. You will always be the light of my life.

Thank you for all the love you gave me and all the life experiences to last a lifetime.

Dearest Uncle Raymond and Family,
The kindest sweetest soul I have ever met is now one of Heavens Angels. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Aunt Laya always made me and my Granchildren feel so special, just as she said like "Family"  She always shared her love and knowledge and it  was my  Honor to have met her. My love and Prayers go out to All of you, Love, Deborah,  Sabrina,  Nadia, Luke and Miley

While there is no way we can feel your pain, we do feel your loss as we have known Tia Adele  for many years. Peace and love to you and your family during this sorrowful time.

I remember Sra Mendez as my teacher during the 1968-69 school year when SBHS was being demolished. She was definitely cool to the high school boys as she had not one, but two muscle cars she was not shy about--a Corvette, and I believe a Chevelle. All of my Spanish teachers deserve credit for teaching me the second language that I eventualy became fluent in. Without that, I never would have met my Spanish-speaking wife of 24 years.

I had your Mother as my Spanish 1 teacher at SBHS in 1966-67. She was such a lovely professional woman. She knew my father growing up in San Bernardino, CA. How proud you must be of her. She left a lasting impression. A great role model for young  women of Mexican American descent.
