With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Yolanda Leija Meza. Our cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and matriarch left this world on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 at the age of 67. She selflessly dedicated herself to family; carefully nurturing and uplifting her family and those that were around her. She was our North Star; one look and you knew where you were and needed to go.
She was the beloved wife of Rodolfo (Rudy) Meza and the cherished mother of Refugio (Jr.) Hernandez, Yolanda (Laly) Feldstein, Debbie Meza Gentry, Andrew Leija Meza, and Randy Leija Meza.
Yolanda brought joy and light to all who knew her. She had a passion for dancing and a deep love for her family and quality time, earning her the title of an amazing mother and perfect grandmother. She embraced life with boundless energy and grace. Yolanda's warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.
Her presence lit up a room, her laughter was contagious as was the energy she emitted from her beautiful soul. Yolanda's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She was an amazing storyteller and instigator of fun. Playing Lotería with her sisters and family was more than just a game; it was about quality time with her family as heard by the eruption of laughter that filled the house.
She was the person you would turn to for support and affection. She was the wind beneath our wings. She attended all the celebrations for her immediate and extended family. She was the first to volunteer to organize events, the first to hit the dance floor, and the last to leave.
In one of her final written notes, she wrote, “Hope your life together is full of happiness and adventure. Wish you the best life has to offer.” Our family asks that you take that message and make it yours - live life and take the adventure! The adventures that Yolanda loved the most were beach trips so she could walk along the shore. If you get a chance to visit South Padre Island, catch a sunrise for her.
Yolanda joins her parents, Maria Elena and David Leija, and her sister Jisela in Heaven. Yolanda is survived by her husband, children, seven sisters, four brothers, and grandchildren, Sammy, Alexis, Angelica, Adriana, Joseph, Orion, and Lyanna; she also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Urijah and Camila.
A gathering of family & friends for Yolanda will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218, followed by a memorial service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
