Wilma Ann Oliver, 91, of San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2023. She was born on January 7, 1932 in Waco, Texas to the late Henry Frank and Clara Ann Wiedemann. She married James D. Oliver on October 29, 1949 in Waco, and they moved to San Antonio shortly thereafter and made a home together where they raised their family, were active members of their church, and sought to serve others for the almost 56 years they were married.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and her brother and sister-in-law, Henry C. and Margie Wiedemann.
Wilma is survived by her children: Catherine Blount and her husband, Scott, of Poulsbo, Washington; Carlene Comer and her husband, Dan, of New Braunfels, Texas; Kevin Oliver of San Antonio, Texas; and Dub Oliver and his wife, Susie, of Jackson, Tennessee.
Wilma was “Grammy” to seven wonderful grandchildren: Brian, Gregory, and Stephen Blount, Lauren Manohara; Zachary Comer; Emily Oliver; and Callie (Zach) Bearden. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren: Isla Blount, Greyson Manohara, Betsy Bearden, and Oliver Bearden.
Wilma was a hard worker. In addition to raising four children and keeping her home spotless, she also worked full-time. As a bookkeeper she always had everything accounted for precisely. The only thing that matched her attention to detail and accuracy was her integrity. Her work benefitted students at Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School and the Alamo Colleges District. Her mind and her hands were always busy with whatever task was at hand. She and Jim both taught their children the importance of hard work and education, providing everything needed to be successful in life. She also enjoyed a strong group of friends with whom she played Bunco and Bridge.
There were a couple of clear commitments in her life. She loved Jesus and sought to serve Him every chance she got. Whether a volunteer commitment in her local parish or volunteering to staff an ACTS Retreat or delivering Meals on Wheels, there was no task too large or too small. Her devotion to serving Christ was evident. She even came out of retirement to be the financial secretary for San Francesco Di Paola Catholic Church.
In retirement, she and Jim loved to travel and saw a good bit of the world. After Jim’s passing, she continued to go and enjoy trips with friends. Her attitude was that she wanted to keep going as long as she could, which she certainly did.
The family takes comfort in the truth of God’s Word which reminds us, “Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful ones.” Psalm 116:15
