Willie was born in Menard County Texas to Fred and Martha Prugel on November 2, 1933 and spent her childhood in Menard.
She married John Charles Tyler in December of 1954. Willie graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Her greatest love was teaching as an elementary school teacher in Bulverde where she touched the lives of many of her students, encouraging them to learn to read so that they could enjoy it as much as she did.
Later in life she made a new career of restoring and selling antique furniture and operated stores in both Bulverde and Boerne. Her next career was in Bulverde where she loved to share her story of raising money to help fund the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library, as she would tell it she began as a “professional beggar” later to become their Librarian.
Willie enjoyed traveling with her husband, John. Together, they traveled much of the Southern United States. John loved horse racing and Willie was able to see much of the country and experience the culture of the different locations they visited.
Willie is preceded in death by her husband, John Tyler and her sister who passed in childhood, Emily Mae Prugel.
Willie is survived by sons, Monte Tyler and his wife Jan, and Bartley Tyler and his wife Camille; and grandsons, Cody Tyler, Lee Tyler, Travis Tyler, and Cortland Tyler.
The Family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heritage Place and their team in Boerne for the loving care they provided to Willie during her final days.
Funeral services will be held on December 29th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232 with internment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Spring Branch Activity Center where Willie enjoyed spending her time playing Bridge, Dominos and Bingo with friends and staff.
