Bill was born on May 23, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas to Mr. George Marvin Watson and Dorothy Scott Waugh. His father George Marvin Watson preceded him in death. Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sally Janecek Watson, along with his daughters, Lara and Brian Thompson, Tracey and Van Beckwith, Christina and Kevin Hellmich, and Scotti and Buddy Smith; his grandchildren, Craig, William, Scott and fiancé Mari Caroline, Hannah, Mary Grace, Lawson, Boyce, Emma Scott, Daniel, and Jacob; Bill's mother, Dorothy Watson; His brothers, George Marvin Watson Jr. and Robert L.G. and Suzanne Watson; and his nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Alamo Heights High School (class of 1958), followed by a BBA from Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and served as an Alumni Board Member. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and proud Mule Football fan. Bill was a longtime member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, presiding as President of the Administrative Board, serving as an usher, and member of various other committees. Bill more fully understood the gospel of Jesus on his walk to Emmaus, transforming his journey of faith.
Bill served as president of the Greater San Antonio Home Builders Association and on other committees. He was awarded Home Builder of the Year in 1979 and was Chairman of the Past Presidents Council. He also served as State Director of the Texas Home Builders Association. He achieved Life Director of the National Home Builders Association, where he was member of N.A.H.B Life Spike Club. He was also a Habitat for Humanity House Leader.
Bill was a fifty-year member of the Texas Cavaliers. He was honored to serve as King Antonio LXI, as well as, River Parade Chairman, aide to King Antonio LIX, and Commander of the Organization. Bill was a member of the Alamo Kiwanis Club for 47 years, serving as a second generation President in 1976. He was President of the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital Board of Trustees. He was a Board Chairmen of the Methodist Mission Home, and he served on the Via Board. He was also a member of The Order of the Alamo, Conopus Club, San Antonio German Club, and San Antonio Country Club. Bill was also a member of the Army Community Council of San Antonio.
Billy, dearly loved by his family and friends, is remembered today and always.
On Monday, July 20, 2015 a Memorial Service will be held at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E. Basse Road at 10:00 AM.
The honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and members of the Texas Cavalier's Kings Council.
