

William Lanier Coiner Bill, age 65, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2009 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was born in Tampa, Florida, August 31, 1943 to Major General Richard Tide Coiner, Jr. and Helen Nix Coiner. A graduate of Le Rosey, Switzerland, and the University of Pennsylvania, he traveled to and lived in many parts of the United States and Europe due to his father's military career. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1968-70, after which he joined Frost Bank and later Groos Bank. In more recent years he was an associate at Kuper-Sotheby's International Realty. He was a member of the Argyle, the San Antonio Country Club, the Order of the Alamo, the German Club, the Conopus Club and the Pilon Club. He was pre-deceased by his parents and older brothers, Richard Tide Coiner III and Beverly Nix Coiner. Bill loved hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his family, where he spent his childhood summers in Port Aransas, TX. He was a devoted husband, father and a friend to all. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ann; his daughters, Emily Coiner Foster and husband Trey, and Josephine Houston Coiner; his grandchildren, Zachery and Emma Foster; his sisters-in-law Charlotte Watson Coiner and Kathleen Moon Coiner; his in-laws Andrew Zilker and Josephine Houston Thompson, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank Dr. James L. Abbruzzese, of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Anthony Tolcher, of South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics START, Bill's dear friend and advocate Dr. George D. Case, and Vitas Hospice for their wonderful care of Bill during his illness.
