William "Hanson" Clark of San Antonio passed away peacefully on November 20, 2014 at the age of 91 in the presence of his family. Hanson was born to Phoebe Hanson Clark and William Hugh Clark in Abilene, Texas on October 30, 1923. He served in the Navy after graduating from high school, and upon his return, married Margaret Lisa McAdams, the mother of his children, Dennis Lynn Clark, Deborah Rhea Morrow, and Phyllis Renea Schaack. Margaret passed in 1977. Hanson continued his career as a civil engineer for the Texas Highway Department until his retirement from Camp Mabry in 1978.
Hanson’s love for life was only eclipsed by his love of family, including his loving wife, Wanda Weaver Clark, to whom he was married to for 31 years. Along with Wanda, he gained a daughter and son, Paula Hynds and Kirk Weaver. “Papa” leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Corky Maker and Judy Hunsaker, as well as numerous daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Hanson’s church family was important to him as well. He used his musical talents to serve as choir director in several churches that he attended throughout his life. He was currently a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Hanson had a passion for traveling. Hanson and Wanda saw the world together. When they were not traveling, Hanson spent time as a ham radio operator, learned computer skills, and loved using his skilled hands to build things for his children and grandchildren.
A memorial service honoring Hanson will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Trinity Baptist Church sanctuary officiated by Dr. Les Hollon. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Ministries.
