

Bill was born and raised in Belvidere, Illinois. After high school, at the age of 17, he joined the Army and served his country after WWII.
Following his service, he began his life long career in the heavy equipment construction industry. First, he helped build dams in the northwest. When he returned to Illinois, he became a crane operator, but also other heavy equipment for many years. He worked tirelessly on the building of OHare Airport in the 60s of which he was proud. He advanced to the position of business agent for IUOE and later elected as a officer of IUOE. He was know for his honesty, integrity, and his negotiating skills. He held the position until his retirement.
Upon his return to Illinois, he not only found a career, he also found "the most beautiful woman" at the roller rink in Dekalb, IL. Arlene Rose Goltermann noticed Bill because he and his friends were pulling pranks at the rink. She thought he wouldnt be boring. The romance continued and they were married in 1953. On June 6th, 2022, Bill and Arlene celebrated their 69th anniversary!
Bill was a devoted family man. He was happiest surrounded by his kids, grandkids, and great grands. He entertained everyone with his wit and sense of humor.
Community service was important to Bill. He served his church volunteering for various projects, big and small. He also served on a school board and was active in PTA. He was also a leader/teacher in several 4-H groups, specializing in horses. Later in life, Bill mentored elementary kids by reading with them and being a male role model.
Family memories include family camping trips and road trip vacations, barbecues, picnics, horse shows, rodeos, and many celebrations. You knew when Bill was having fun by his jokester grin and the twinkle in his eyes. He loved to make people laugh.
Bills interests and passions included fishing, car racing, flying, and all things horses. He was a reader of western novels and history, especially Native American history. He watched every John Wayne movie more than once.
He loved cherry pie, pineapple upside down cake, and anything that looked like a cookie. The very best were always baked with love by the love of his life, Arlene.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene, his 4 children, Greg Anderson, Susan Sutherland, Lori Uvietta, and Sandy Wentrcek, 3 grand children, and 4 great grand children. He will be missed but never forgotten.
