Tom received a bachelor’s degree at Yale University, a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and a Fellow of pediatric hematology at the University of Virginia School Medicine, Charlottesville, VA. Tom continuously upgraded his skills and knowledge with additional Fellowships through the years.
Tom practiced as a physician for many years, treating children with advance stage cancers in San Antonio, TX, Chapel Hill, NC, and Mexico. He was medical director of the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Cancer Research and Treatment Center and director of the pediatrics bone marrow transplantation program. He was also involved in cancer drug development at Burroughs Welcome Company, Orphan Medical, Ilex Oncology and Amplimed Corporation.
Tom met his future wife Peggy Jane (O’Neill) at Camp Allen in the summer of 1954. Tom and Peggy loved to travel; they went on cruises and with their grandchildren to Disney World and Fiesta Texas as part of Camp Grandma each summer. They also toured North America with their children, going to 48 United States, Mexico, and Canada. They traveled to Africa, Haiti, Jamaica, and Mexico while Tom was director of Episcopal Medical Missions Foundation, providing health care to people needing medical and dental services.
He is survived by his sister Jennifer Williams (Charlie Dell), and children James David Williams (Melissa Lynn Williams), Elizabeth Williams Henson (Jeffrey Wayne Henson), and Thomas Eugene Williams (Janet Dillawn Williams). He is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda Williams Walton, Adrianne Williams Beutnagel, Mary Henson Comisarenco, Emily Henson Mehalic and Hannah Margaret Williams, great-grandchildren Skyler Beautnagel and Wesley Walton.
A memorial service for Tom will be held at Christ Our King Anglican Church, 115 Kings Way in New Braunfels on December 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM.
