Tommy was born in West Point, New York and lived in many places around the world with his military family before eventually settling in San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted in the US Army and served for four years during the Vietnam War. After returning home he started his apprenticeship in 1966.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Ann Barker of San Antonio, sons, Michael L Barker of Round Rock, Texas and Jeff Barker of San Antonio, 2 granddaughters, Mikayla Barker of Los Angeles, CA and Megan Barker of Austin, TX, daughter-in-law Veronica Keaton-Barker of Round Rock, Texas, and sister Patricia Rodriguez of Madison, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis D. Barker and Jewel E. Tanner.
He started his apprenticeship as an electrician and worked for Nathan Alterman Electric Company for many years and was a journeyman prior to his retirement in 2009. Tommy was a proud member of IBEW Local Union #60 for over fifty years. He was well respected and revered in his field.
Tommy enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending quality time with his family. He was a strong man who will always be remembered by his strength, generosity, and his loyalty. He taught his children and grandchildren to have the diligence to work hard while being responsible, respectful, and caring as they enjoyed their lives.
There will be a visitation for family and friends that will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 29th at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. As per his wishes, his remains will be cremated.
