

Dr. Thaddeus Monroe Howard, D.V.M age 79 of San Antonio passed on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. He was a graduate of Brackenridge High School. He was also a graduate of Texas A & M University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Howard served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps during the Korean conflict. He later opened the San Pedro Animal Hospital. Dr. Howard later built a larger San Pedro Animal Hospital in Hollywood Park. Throughout his veterinary career, Dr. Howard was a Botanist and published numerous articles on Botany in Central and South America. He traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Central and South America. He authored the Book, Bulbs For Warm Climates, published by UT Press. He was awarded the William Herbert Medal for Botany. Throughout his life, Dr. Howard contributed to the Wildlife Sanctuary and supported Lynn Cuny's rescue efforts. Dr. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Thaddeus Howard, Sr. and Lolita Howard, and sister, Marie Howard Mathis. He is survived by friend and caretaker, Larry Zuercher; niece, Jamie Rakun and husband, Ronald; cousin, Billie Moran, and dear friend, Charlene Newell.
