Suzanne Irene Gutierrez, our sister in Christ, went to be with Our Lord on March 23, 2023. She was born to Paul and Grace Salinas on July 20, 1976. She is predeceased by her father Paul and father-in-law Andrew Gutierrez, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Steven Andrew Gutierrez; children Steven Andrew (Celeste Martin), John Elvis, Ava Madonna, and Paul Salinas Gutierrez, sister Lisa A. Salinas (Elise Lucas), brothers Paul A. Salinas (Thomas Rubel) and Robert C. Salinas, niece Allison Perez (Arthur Perez) whom she helped raise and Audry Soto, mother-in-law Eugenia Gutierrez, sisters-in-law Leticia Gutierrez and Olga Gutierrez, numerous nieces and nephew.
Suzanne endured her five-year battle with cancer with a calm and faithful resolve, unrelenting determination and quiet grace. With Christ Our Lord by her side, her time of departure was at hand. She fought the good fight, she finished the race and she kept the faith. Suzanne lived with conviction to her values, with love, charity, and hope.
She and Steve were high school sweethearts and were married August 2, 1996. They were married 26 years. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School in 1994 and attended the University of Incarnate Word where she studied Music therapy. Suzanne taught music at St. John Berchmans School. Her love of music resounded throughout her life; IWHS Madrigals Chorale, SJB school and church choirs, karaoke, singing in her car, etc. She loved music, from pop music to Big Band 1940s classics.
Nothing meant more to Suzanne than her husband and children. Her love for them is endless having a unique and loving relationship with each of them, beaming with pride at their accomplishments. Their triumphs were her triumphs. Their tribulations were her tribulations, all children as beautiful as she. In them, her abounding faith, her kindness, and her loving and accepting ways will continue. Suzanne gave love freely and anyone who knew Suzanne knew of her love of animals, surrounded always by her kitties and dogs.
Suzanne lived her life as a caring and devout catholic woman and mother. She loved her faith as evident in her involvement in ACTS, as church volunteer, as lector, and as altar server. She forged lasting and deep relationships with friends throughout her life; childhood friends, high school friends, college friends. She was a technological wizard, our own personal IT expert. She could assemble and fix just about anything. Suzanne was funny – always. Her humor was contagious and an integral part of who she was. Sarcasm was delivered with finesse and poise. Life in its ups and downs was faced with humor and carefree resolve. She made all of us laugh and smile.
Suzanne was the youngest of four, so our loss is great. She was full of life and brought life to wherever she happened to be. She loved to sing and dance and be merry. Many memories of birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, sacramental ceremonies, school soccer games, football games, school band concerts, school plays and performances, science fairs, award ceremonies, graduations, art exhibits, beach vacations, trips to New York City, Las Vegas and Washington DC, holiday get-togethers and Fiesta events remain with us. We will miss Suzanne deeply but know that she is living within the promises of eternal life with Our Lord Jesus Christ. May Our Sister in Christ rest in peace.
