Susan Marie Thompson (nee Wisz) joined our Heavenly Father on February 16, 2014 at the age of 59 after a battle with ALS. Sue was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born January 25, 1955 in Tonawanda, New York. Sue joined the United States Army where she served 2 years before she was medically discharged. She married John Thompson on April 17, 1979, and became a United States Navy wife. Their travels took them from Norfolk, Virginia to Key West, Florida to Groton, Connecticut to Honolulu, Hawaii where they spent 13 years. After their time in Hawaii, they came to San Antonio, Texas. Sue became active in her church, holding many different callings for the Lord.
Sue is preceded in death by her father, Edmund A. Wisz; her mother, Shirley Anne Rice and her stepfather, Ronald Orlando – all of Buffalo, New York, and her mother-in-law, Verna Thompson of San Antonio. She is survived by her husband John Thompson; sons and their wives, Joshua and Maria Thompson and Elijah and Cassidy Thompson; daughter, Katelyn (Katie); grandchildren, Hannah and Kaylee; her father-in-law, John Thompson; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Cheryl Wisz; brothers-in-law and their wives, Scott and Pam Thompson, Craig and Holly Thompson, and sister-in-law and her husband, Lisa and Brett Magnusson. She also leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Northwest Hills Christian Church, 9560 Potranco Road, San Antonio at 12:45 PM with private burial services to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. There will be a reception at the church following the burial in which all are welcome to attend.
One of Sue’s favorite Bible verses was: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 - Concordia NIV.
