Susan G Essing was born on July 14th, 1959 in Strawberry Point, Iowa to Earl and Julia Lawson. She grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa and attended ICCC school of Nursing. Upon achieving her degree, she resided in southern California. While there, she met Joe A. Garcia (Tony) and soon settled in San Antonio.
Susan had been a nurse at Southwest General Hospital for nearly 25 years. She enjoyed singing, dancing, arts and crafts, laying out on the beach, gardening and a cold Mountain Dew. Most of all she enjoyed anything to do with pirates, often living her pirate life as Avangi DéFoe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Julia Lawson; grandson, Ezekieal Schlentz; siblings, Edward and Ted Lawson; nephews, George Jr., Gilbert, and Jimmy; niece, Lyndee; brother-in-law, Steven Essing.
She is survived by her husband, Joe A. Garcia; children, Dawn Collins (Freddy), Winter Oller (Kenny), Joshua Schwering (Mia) and Amanda Schlentz (Caleb); grandchildren, Samantha Free, Rachel Todd, Madison Schwering, Zachary Echleberger, Tyler Hendrickson, Ashley Hendrickson, Alex Hendrickson, Allison Schwering, Kyrie Schwering, Ierly Schlentz, Vada Schlentz and Topanga Schlentz; great grandchildren, Kristin Free, Bradley Free, Dorothy Free and Destiny Todd; siblings, Donna Hogan, James Lawson, Mike Lawson, Richard Lawson, Howard Summers, Harry Summers, Hershel Summers, Harold Summers, Marlene Eslbecker, Marlys Rowe, Tim Lawson and Lori Essing; also numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Road. Services will conclude in the chapel. Cremation will follow.
