On July 19, 2010, Susan Elizabeth Littnan, age 67, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family and friends, in her home in San Antonio, Texas after a courageous five month battle with cancer. She was born on June 17, 1943, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Lyle and Evelyn Graupmann. Her family moved to Roseville, Minnesota when Susan was seven and she lived there until her high school graduation in 1961. Susan attended and graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a BA in Business Administration in 1965. She married Charles Littnan on March 22, 1967, and became a loving and devoted Army wife who managed to raise a family, work, and serve her community while living at numerous Army posts in Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States. Susan was an active volunteer with various organizations throughout her life. Of particular importance to her was her work over the last several years with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) in San Antonio. In this role she watched over and advocated for abused and neglected children. As in every endeavor she undertook, Susan went well beyond what was required and on several instances became the temporary “Grandma” for children who needed love and some stability. Susan was intelligent, strong, independent, and morally courageous and possessed a heart full of compassion and love for all. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her whole world and she was immeasurably proud of them. They will all miss her deeply. She is survived and celebrated by her husband, Charles Littnan; daughter, Melissa White and her husband Rob; son, Charles Littnan; grandchildren, Lauren and Spencer White; sisters, Mary Gagne and Ann Zuckerman; nieces, nephews, cousins and many more family members and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Fort Sam Main Post “Gift” Chapel with Chaplain Jim Boelens officiating. Interment to follow at a later date in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to a local CASA organization or the American Cancer Society.
