Susan Barber

Susan Harvey Barber, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the age of 64. She was born on August 17, 1949 in Corpus Christi, TX to Caswell B. and Dorothy (Coterill) Harvey. Susan graduated from W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi in 1967. She graduated from Del Mar College in 1969, Texas A & I University (now Texas A & M University, Kingsville) in 1971 and received her master’s degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1982. She was a devoted teacher and librarian. She taught for 38 years, ten years at San Benito High School and twenty eight years with the San Antonio Independent School District. She retired in 2009.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Caswell B. Harvey. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Kenneth J. Barber; her sons, Patrick Barber of Canyon Lake, TX and Michael Barber of Converse, TX; mother, Dorothy Harvey of North Richland Hills, TX; brother, David Harvey of Plano, TX; sister, Laura Schroder of Weatherford, TX. Also left to cherish her memory are many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 9:30am at Sunset Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lowell Middle SAISD Library Fund.
