Steven Arthur Holson, age 62, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 after a 17-month long battle with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Norma Holson. Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Laura Holson; son, Matthew Holson and wife Kendall; daughter, Lauren Wagoner and husband Zach; mother-in-law, Barbara; sisters, Kathy Lanzen and husband Keith and Lisa Knoblock; grandchildren, Landon Holson and Leah Wagoner; as well as numerous family and friends.
Steve was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He attended St. Pius X and graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1973. After studying at the University of Texas at El Paso and Southwest Texas State University, he traded his school books for the uniform of the United States Marine Corps where he served a short time before finally joining the San Antonio Police Department. He served as a Police Officer and Homicide Detective for 34 years before his retirement in 2013. In 2014, he joined the Johnson City Police Department as a Reserve Officer. Steve loved serving the community where he lived.
Steve will be remembered by his family and friends as a staunch family man with a servant's heart and a penchant for fun. He loved God and his family above all else and found opportunities each day to serve each in some way. His children and grandchildren brought him much joy and his eyes lit up when one of the little ones called out to their "Pop-Pop"! Steve loved nature and, on most mornings after his retirement, could be found sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee enjoying the singing of the native Texas birds, chittering hummingbirds, bleating goats and the lowing of cattle.
