Stephen is survived by his wife, Sandy Bakalyar, sons Scott Michael and Stephen Matthew, and siblings Merritt Donald Bakalyar, II, Claudia Bakalyar, Rebecca Bakalyar (Ted Hough), Diane Bakalyar, Mary Bakalyar (Bill Szlinis), and Barbara Benton.
Preceded in death by his son, Bobby Bakalyar, his parents Merritt Donald and Mary Helen Bakalyar; siblings Robert Earl Bakalyar and Carolyn Bakalyar.
Steve received his Bachelor’s from Texas A&M with a degree in Environmental Engineering. He received his Master’s from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps for three years and the United States Air Force for 17 years until he was honorably discharged. During his time with USAF, he served as a Bioenvironmental Engineer Specialist for three years, and then promoted to Bioenvironmental Engineer General for 14 years until 1998. Steve spent his years after the military dedicating his time as a Safety Environmental Engineer, until his retirement in 2015. Steve was very involved in Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scout Master, and went on to earn his Wood Badge Award.
Steve was a devoted husband and loving father, son, uncle, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and friend to all who knew him. He was very loved and will be dearly missed.
Service is scheduled for October 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232, with reception to follow at the same location.
