

She was born on June 5, 1935, in Santurce, Puerto Rico to parents Antonio Montes and Elena Collazo. Preceded in death by husband Hector G. Portela. Sonia is survived by her children, eldest son Hector Jr., his wife Nanci, grandson Antonio, and granddaughter Eliana, daughter Myrna Bullock and husband Richard, youngest son Juan, his wife Lucie and granddaughter Jennieve.
Sonia, originally from Puerto Rico loved her family and San Antonio. The wife of an Air Force veteran, she enjoyed cooking, ceramics, sewing and traveling, especially trips with their friends to Las Vegas, Acapulco, and most importantly, family gatherings and celebrations. A true fashionista admired by all.
She was a proud longtime member of the Sociedad Herencia Puertorriqueña (SHP) a tax-exempt non-profit woman’s organization founded in 1984, in San Antonio, with the objective of promoting and maintaining the Puerto Rican culture and traditions alive in the city.

There is no love as powerful as a mother’s love, it brightens the dark night. It gives me joy and happiness. I feel your love still. Que Dios te bendiga.
A celebration of her life will be held on May 2nd at 7PM at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX.
