Shirley Callaway Lee, age 87, born 10 March 1935 in San Antonio, Texas, passed on Sunday, 25 December 2022. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1953. She married her high school sweetheart, Chief Warrant Officer Robert E. Lee, on 8 February 1958, and they celebrated 23 years together before he passed on 2 March 1981 at the age of 47.
As a military wife, she traveled to duty stations in Okinawa, Japan and Babenhausen, Germany where she served as president of the Officer’s Wives Club. When they finally settled back in San Antonio, Texas, she worked at the law firm of Davidson & Troilo, where she would remain for 25 years before retiring at the age of 72 to be a full-time Grams, Gramsey, and Gramscracker to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lenna and Harmon Lee Callaway, her husband Robert E. Lee, her sister Merle Mitchell, and her brother Lt Colonel John Harold Callaway. She is survived by her son Michael and wife Judy, daughter Debra and husband AJ Heidelberg; grandchildren, Jack and wife Amy, Jennifer, and Jacob Lee, and Melissa and husband Craig Hinchliffe and Emily Heidelberg; great-grandchild Madeleine Hinchliffe. Other survivors include her sister Patricia Stodden and husband Jack of Bremerton, WA, brother-in-law John C Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews.
Services:
Visitation at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 5 to 8, Thursday 26 January 2023. The funeral will take place at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, 12 to 1, Friday 27 January 2023. Interment at Fort Sam National Cemetery, 1:30 to 2, will be followed by a private family gathering at the funeral home.
The family asks that everyone who attends either the viewing or her funeral write a note for her memory jar to be read each year.
