Santiago Ontiveros, Jr. passed away on May 1, 2019 at the age of 82. Was bornnin San Antonio on October 1, 1926 to parents, Santiago and Victoria Ontiveros. Graduated from Sidney Lanier High School where he played football. He was a veteran of the Vietnam and Korean War, served in the Navy for 3 years and 17 years in the Army where he retired after 20 years of serving in the armed forces.
He enjoyed playing cards with his siblings, going to casinos and liked dancing with his wife to swing, salsa, merengue, country and Tejano. He was a sports fanatic more specifically for Spurs basketball and Dallas cowboys.
His passion was watercolor painting, was a self taught artist. Look around and you can see his paintings being displayed. His favorite paintings were of the hill country and the Southwest.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Santiago Ontiveros III, his sister, Clara Torres, brothers, Gabriel Ontiveros, Joe Ontiveros and “Chale” Ontiveros.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lilia; son, Eddie Ontiveros; daughters, Marie Victoria Chavez (George), Dr. Suzanna Cruz (Issac), and Ana Liza Casia; granddaughters, Megan Chavez (Felix) and Olivia Ontiveros; grandsons, Marc Chavez, Dr. Brandant Cruz (Kristyna), and Zachary Cruz; great-grandson, Xavier Thomas Cruz; brother, Juan Ontiveros (Lydia), and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will be receiving friends for a Visitation at Roy Akers Funeral Home – 515 N. Main Ave. 78205 – on Thursday, May 9 from 5 PM to 9 PM, with a Prayer Service to begin at 7 PM. The Funeral Service will begin at 9 AM on Friday, May 10 at the funeral home, and a Procession will depart at 10 AM and arrive at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for burial at 10:30 AM in Shelter #3.
