Rev. Santiago Garcia, Jr. entered the arms of God at the age of 89 years on April 3, 2020 surrounded by his loving wife and two daughters. He was born in San Antonio, Texas to Santiago Garcia, Sr. and Sotera Garcia on April 27, 1930. At the age of 18 he gave his life to preach the gospel of Christ.
Rev. Garcia leaves behind his beloved wife of 72 years, Delia P. Garcia. He had 7 gown children; Rev. Jimmy Garcia, III (Dolores Garcia); Daniel Garcia (Mary France Garcia); Elisabet Garcia, Noe Garcia (Cheryl Garcia) Febe Sauseda (Joe Sauseda) Orpha Garcia, and Tim Garcia (Carol Garcia). He has 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Rev. Garcia is preceded by his parents and siblings: Anita Saenz, Belen Ortiz, Sarah Garcia and a half-sister, Leonor Martinez and half-brother Prajedes Acuna. He had numerous newphews and nieces. One of his favorite past time was to spent with his family. He was affectionately called "Chago", "Tio Chago", "Uncle Jimmy", and "Pepo". In addition, to his family, he enjoyed fishing, socializing with friends and eating out. He will sorely be missed.
He ministered for 50 years mainly in Texas beginning, in Memorial Baptist Church in Pleasanton, Texas in 1949. He was known for starting new churches, revitalizing others and was a well-known fulltime evangelist with the Gene Williams Evangelistic Association out of Houston, Texas. He ministered to the following churches: Igelsia Bautista Memorial Pleasanton, Texas, Iglesia Bautista Sur San Antonio, Iglesia Bautista El Buen Pastor in Del Rio, Texas, Westlawn Baptist Church, San Antonio, Bonita Gardens Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, Seacroft Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas, Northeast Hispanic Baptist Church, Converse, Texas. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio. He retired in 1995 but continued to pastored churches on part-time bases at Sutherland Spring, Elgin, Waelder, Texas.
A private burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Gravesite service at 12:00 noon. Officiating the service will be Rev. Joe Hernandez, Jr.
