Ross Martin, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed from this world on May 24, 2022, at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, at the age of 74. His wife, Carolyn, was at his side. He was born to Adele O. Henderson and Arthur E. Martin on August 18, 1947, in San Antonio.
Ross graduated from Highlands High School in 1965 and the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Physics in 1970. He returned to San Antonio and worked with his father in A.E. Martin Construction Co. until its closing in 1989. From 1989 to 2000, he owned Blanton Computer Systems, providing computing services to local businesses. His last employment before retiring in 2015 was Systems Manager for Alterman Management Co.
Ross loved taking his boat to the Texas Coast, listening to all genres of music, especially Texas music, bird watching, reading, and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He made music mix tapes for his family when they embarked on new adventures, and lists of his favorite books, songs, and food. He was a lifelong student and tinkerer, builder of this and that, and an all-around wonderful man, kind and generous to all. A student of philosophy, he was in the midst of writing a long form essay called "A Conversation with God." He did not live to complete the work.
Ross is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carolyn, daughter Molly Ann Martin and husband Gary Chinn, son David Ross Martin, stepson Brian Falbo, stepdaughter Lisa Kubick and husband Stephen, grandchildren Adam Chinn, Silas Chinn, Evan Kubick and Jaden Kubick, brother-in-law Bob Carlisle and wife Barbara, and Annette Martin, mother of his children, as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Pike.
Special thanks to his best friend of 50+ years, Dr. Dee McCrary, for his friendship and support through the years, especially during the last 10 months.
The light has gone out but the flame ever flickers.
