Rose Marie Thompson Kline, age 87, of San Antonio, Texas, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016. Rose was born February 6, 1929 in Paris, Texas. She graduated from Paris High School in 1946 and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator.
After work one evening, her friends asked her to join them for dinner saying they had someone they wanted her to meet. That evening, she met and fell in love with Alford Kline, the love of her life. The two were married March 11, 1949. Rose and Al moved to Longview, Texas where they had three daughters. After living in Dallas, Ennis, Galveston and Houston, they were transferred to San Antonio March 22, 1968 and joined MacArthur Park Lutheran Church. Rose volunteered in the church office working on the weekly newsletter and she and Al joined the Dinner Eight Club as well as the Mac Bowling League and had many years of fun with their friends.
Rose was an excellent seamstress for herself and her three girls making numerous matching mother/daughter outfits and using favorite trims such as rick rack, buttons and lace. She and Al loved taking their camper on scenic trips throughout the United States and visiting all the National Parks. They became members of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in 2010 and celebrated their 63rd anniversary in 2012. Rose received an iPad for Christmas when she was 84 and absolutely loved it. She was constantly playing Spider, Word Search, working puzzles, coloring beautiful pictures as well as sending and receiving email and photos from her family and friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband Al, parents Wylie “Pat” and Dovie Thompson, brother Pat Ray Thompson and grandsons Stephen and Michael Ward. She is survived by her daughters, Alice and husband Larry Ward, DiAnne and husband Don Hakala and Beth Fain; grandchildren, Noelle and Brandon Hoth, Tom and Lindsey Hakala, Ryan Fain, Becky Fain and great-grandchildren, Evelyn Ward, Vivian Rose Hoth and Isaac Hoth, Tate Tarter and numerous nieces and nephews.
