On Friday, March 4, 2022, Rosa P. Fox went to be with the Lord at the age of 73. The beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and colleague will be genuinely missed by so many. She imprinted deeply in our hearts and will be with us always.
Rosa was born on May 26, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas. She was a strong nurturer to all that came into her life. She loved the Lord and her entire family like no other. She spent much of her time reaching out to her family making sure everyone was always taken care of.
Rosa graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1985 and loved being a Registered Nurse at the VA Hospital for the last 36 years. When Rosa worked for Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas, she was selected as part of the medical team of nurses and doctors that would be on standby for President Bill Clinton, presidential nominee, at the time. Before becoming an RN, she worked as a social worker and Licensed Vocational Nurse.
At the VA hospital, she was a mentor to all nurses and new surgeons in the holding area of the operating room. All those orienting in the OR had to go through Rosa to be taught the proper way. She was a mentor and resource for any issue that would arise in the OR. And at her age, she still performed at a very high level.
Rosa was an incredible woman. Driving her husband, Lauren, to the coast in Port Aransas was a treat for them. Rosa enjoyed sitting in her chair and watching ships come into the bay while Lauren fished a few feet away. She loved taking their dogs with them, too. That brought them such happiness.
Rosa loved her sons and grandsons. They will always be her pride and joy. Her love shone through her eyes and laughter when she spoke of them. If you know Rosa, you will never forget her laughter and personality. Never.
She was always all-giving and never expected anything in return. Rosa was the family Florence Nightingale. She cared for her siblings and family every time someone was critically ill. She traveled from home to home and town to town to spread her healing care and love. Rosa never missed a beat.
She will never be forgotten, our family matriarch, Rosa Fox.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Maria Pereida; and her sister, Alicia Welch. She is survived by her husband, Lauren; her children, John Ortiz (Carrie), and Eddie Ortiz; her grandsons, Jacob and John Paul Ortiz, and Adam Padilla (honorary grandson); her siblings, Delia Perieda, Yolanda Reyna (Arturo), Celia Vega, Marie Elena Cabral (Joe), and Daniel Pereida (Mariana); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11th from 6-9 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 9:00 am with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
