Roland Burrs, age 84, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in San Antonio, TX where he was close to his loving family. Roland was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, proudly wearing the name "Popa".
Roland enjoyed many things in life that led him to be enriched with fond memories and lifelong friends. He was a man of faith being a longtime member of the Arena Cowboy Church in Lawton, OK. Roland was also a man who enjoyed the outdoors. He loved riding and caring for horses, sail boating at the Sunken Bridge Yacht Club with his close friend Roger Johnson and building homes that would shelter and protect other loving families. He graduated from Capital High School in Oklahoma City in 1957 and went on to attend OKC Community College. Roland enlisted in the Army and served 3 ½ years in the Army Security Agency which included an overseas tour in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the Army he pursued a career in home building. He moved to Lawton in 1970 where he met the love of his life Carole Ann Gilder. The couple married on June 29th, 1973. He built numerous homes in the Lawton community until his retirement in 2005. Roland and Carole remained in Lawton until their move to San Antonio in December 2023 to be closer to family.
As a big family man, Roland leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Carole Burrs of the home; his son, Johnny Burrs and wife Jamie of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Tammy Scullin of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, MacKenzie Burrs and fiancé Josh Tobar of San Antonio, TX, Noah Scullin of Dallas, TX, Crystal Burrs of San Antonio, TX; and Christopher Burrs of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Kylin, Henry, & Texas Tobar, all of San Antonio, TX. siblings, Mary Spradlin and husband Jess of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeannie DuBois of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Edie Keating and husband Ed of West Palm Beach, FL. Roland is also survived by longtime friends Roger Johnson and Richard Ingram, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other friends. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends until they see him again.
Roland is reunited in Heaven with his mother, Dessa Burrs and father, Ralph Burrs.
The Burrs Family will receive guests for Roland on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas 78232 with a celebration of life at 11:30 AM. A funeral procession will take place following the celebration of life to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a Committal Service at 1:15 PM.
