Major Roger D. Egger, of San Antonio, died September 28, 2011. He was born on October 21, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a member of Harlingen Masonic Lodge #1132 A.F & A.M for over 50 years and a member of the Mini-Wheels Unit of the Alzafar Shrine. He also was a life member of Post 2, American Legion 8541, VFW, TROA, ROA, DAV, and a member of NARFE and 461st Bomb Group. He served his country for more than 43 years as a military and civilian member of the U.S. Air Force. He flew 50 combat missions in WWII, three of which were over the Polesti Oil Fields. Mr. Egger was an active member of Oak Hills Presbyterian Church since 1969. He served as a volunteer at Methodist Heart & Transplant Specialty Hospital for more than 17 years. He recently celebrated his 48th wedding anniversary with his wife Eleanor Bell of Edinburgh, Scotland who survives him. He is also survived by two sons, John F. Egger of Seminole, FL and Billy Egger of Ft. Worth, TX; one daughter, Sharon Sue Tucker of North Richland Hills, TX; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be held, October 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Kathryn Barlow-Williams officiating at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church, 6739 Callaghan Rd., San Antonio, TX 78229. Memorials may be made to Oak Hills Presbyterian Church, Cancer and Therapy Research, or the Masonic Hospital Fund. Another member of the greatest generation has now joined his fellow comrades.
