He was an entrepreneur, owning three businesses jointly with his wife in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico during the 1960s. He was a waiter for 30 years at La Louisiane. "For 57 years, La Louisiane dominated the fine-dining scene of San Antonio by offering a variety, quality and consistency of food that was on par with the finest restaurants in the United States."
He was a man of God; he raised and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his extended family and was a choir member at Sur Zarzamora Baptist Church. He would visit his family in Mexico regularly and also take family trips throughout the Republic of Mexico on a yearly basis.
Rodolfo led his life quietly by example, unselfishly loving every family member and human being with whom he came in touch. He started as a bachelor helping his mother and family then transitioned to a husband who provided for his family and helped countless family members and friends. This way of life gained him the respect and appreciation of many for his love, patience, long-suffering, and quiet sense of humor, often displayed through spontaneous and unexpected playfulness. He had an unselfish love for others; he led by example and demonstrated his care through acts of love. He would often state: "Hechos, hechos!"
He is preceded in death by his firstborn son, Rodolfo, his grandparents, parents, and several siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Idalia M. Gomez; his children (and spouses), Patty Hemphill, Rodolfo (Connie), Idalia Chaires (Carlos), Silvia Baladez (Carlos), Carlos (Maria), and Diana Ledezma (Noe), nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
