He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Josie Sierra Garza; sons: Rudy Rene Garza, Gary (Rachel) Garza and daughter, Gina Marie Garza (Javier) De La Vega; 9 grandchildren: Gary Lee Garza, Stevie Ray James Garza, Jake Thomas Garza, Hannah Garza, Charles Garza, Alexander Santiago Garza, Rudy Andrew Garza, Karina Ysabella De La Vega and Javier Esteven De La Vega; 4 great grandchildren: Gary James Garza, Isaiah Garza, Emmet Andrew Garza, and Audrey Garza; brothers: Juan Garza, Orlando Garza, Mario Garza; sisters: Ofelia Delfelder, Estela Garza, Irma (Eric) Antuna, Nora (Pedro) Alejandro; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers: Thomas Garza, David Garza and sister: Elsa Garza.
He came from humble beginnings living in Bishop, Texas then early in life moving to San Antonio, Texas. He graduated class of 1963 from South San Antonio High School and also attended St. Phillips College. Rudy was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and numerous other medals and ribbons throughout his military career serving in Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. He worked at Patio Frozen Foods in the 60’s and retired from Civil Service at Kelly A.F.B. after 27 years. He retired from the Texas Army National Guard and served on the American Legion Executive Committee at Ray Rangel Post 399.
Rudy will be missed by his family and those who knew him, the legacy of the Garza Name will live on though his family for generations.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, August 17, 2020, at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m.
A Chapel Service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
