Rodney G. Koch was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 30, 1940 and entered into Eternal Life at age 83 on Monday, June 10, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Eliska Koch, brother Wallace, and sister Lorraine. He is survived by his wife Irma of 43 years, cousins James Koch, wife Peggy, and many Koch relatives.
Rodney gently surrendered to the Lord’s calling him home on June 10, after valiantly battling kidney failure, COPD and Atrial Fibrillation.
A compassionate and devoted family man, Rodney was a caregiver to his mother Eliska and brother Wallace when their health went into decline. A man of profound personal faith, Rodney always prayed for the needs of others and generously supported the financial needs of his parishes wherever he lived, along with multiple charitable organizations, like the Disabled Veterans, Catholic Charities, and so many others who reached out to him for assistance.
Silent and quiet in many ways, those who knew and loved Rodney, respected this humble man for his kind demeanor, varied interests and wonderful sense of humor.
Rodney worked for the San Antonio Light newspaper for 29 years as a Circulation Accountant, followed by a brief time with the IRS.
He and Irma enjoyed traveling together to visit many U.S. states and the countries of Mexico, Canada and Italy, and Rodney enthusiastically participated in many non-competitive fitness walks, like the internationally acclaimed Volksmarching.
Throughout his life, Rodney was a faithful steward of God’s land and the animals he was blessed to have been entrusted. He and Irma own 10 acres of land outside of Seguin where Rodney raised chickens, roosters, ducks and turkeys. His favorite pet was Lolita, a 12 year old dog. She and Rodney couldn’t have loved each other more! She was his faithful and constant companion.
After completing a full 8-hour workday in San Antonio, it wouldn’t be unusual to find Rodney back in his truck driving out to his property to maintain the land and care for his wonderful animals. It gave him absolute joy and peace to be there and with them.
Beloved Rodney, we will miss your humble presence and gentle soul.
Eternal Rest grant unto Rodney, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, through the mercy of God,
Rest in Peace. Amen.
