Roberto Martinez, age 92, went to be with the lord peacefully at his home in the presence of his family on Saturday, October 8, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. Roberto smiled, laughed and joked through his 92 years; bringing joy and happiness to everyone he touched.
Roberto was born on March 6, 1930, to Bernadino and Delores Martinez in Cementville, TX. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at a young age where he served 4 years to his country. After finishing his service, he married his love of 57 years, Carmen on December 30, 1958. He went on to work at Alamo Cement for 35 years, retiring at the age of 62. Though he was a wonderful friend to many, the people most important to him were his children and family.
Roberto was a devoted Husband to Carmen, a loving father, and a wonderful grandfather and great- grandfather. Roberto and Carmen enjoyed traveling, going to the dances and spending quality outside time together. After Carmen’s passing, he would visit her graveside weekly to leave her flowers. Roberto enjoyed spending time with his daughters and hosting family BBQ’s. He attended all his children’s athletic games as well as his grandkids and most recently, his great – grandkids games. He was the families rock and a great friend to so many. He was a man of few words but showed his love with his actions.
Roberto was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carmen M. Martinez, brothers and sisters Louis Martinez, Simon R. Martinez, Jose S. Martinez, Socorro Martinez, Adolfo Martinez, Antonio G. Martinez, Gloria Martinez and son-in-law, Koby Cantu.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Cindy Villarreal (John), Irene Cantu and Isabel Perez. Grandchildren, Stephanie Villarreal, Vanessa Villarreal, Veronica Villarreal (Danny), John Villarreal lll, Ryan Cantu (Kelly), Casey Cantu (Sarah) and Karisa Cantu, Anna Herrington (Mark), Maribel Newton (Tom) and Jesse Perez and 11 great- grandchildren, Danica Sarmiento, Olivia Villarreal, Ryley Cantu, Kennedy Cantu, Camila Cantu, Kirby Cantu, Noah Villarreal, Penelope Cantu, Mariana Perez, Angelica Herrington, and Blake Herrington.
The visitation will be at 6 P.M., Tuesday, October 25th, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rosary to be recited at 7 P.M. The funeral mass will be at 12 P.M., Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz, San Antonio, TX. 78209. The interment will follow at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Army Honors.
