Robert graduated from Brackenridge High School. He served in the USMC for six years having been in Guantanamo Bay at the time of the Cuban Missile Crises. He retired as a barber after managing the Wilford Hall barber shop at Lackland AFB,
Robert and Rosa enjoyed traveling with their family. He believed in passing on his love of nature and travel to his family. Robert and Rosa enjoyed attending theatre Performances at the Majestic and San Pedro playhouse
He was a skilled bird breeder and had a collection of exotic doves and parakeets. In his later years he focused on raising chickens and passed this on to his grandsons James and Ryan. He loved fish and maintained two outside ponds stocked with goldfish, He loved plants and had an extensive collection. He read extensively and had many books on tropical fish and birds. He also collected Indian artifacts and arrowheads and enjoyed going to Indian shows
Nature was something that he loved and He was also a skilled welder and enjoyed creating different works of steel.
His Catholic faith was very important to him coupled with a great devotion to our Blessed Mother. He and his wife Rosa participated in the candle ministry at his beloved church St Margaret Mary.
Roberto is preceded in death by his parents: Cruz and Estela Castillo; brother: Cruz Castillo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years: Rosa; children: Robert Andrew Castillo, Jackie Anais Barragan and her husband Eric and Amanda Rose Markham and her husband Cory; grandchildren: James Edward Markham and Ryan Andrew Markham; numerous brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (1314 Fair Ave.), with the Recitation of The Rosary beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Requiem Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m., with interment to follow at San Fernando III.
