Col. Robert A. Watson, USAF (Ret.) of San Antonio, 84, died on June 27 from complications following heart surgery. He was born on a dairy farm in Sutherland, Iowa to Orr and Rosa Watson. After graduating from Iowa State University, he joined the Air Force Medical Service Corps and served as a hospital administrator, earning a master’s degree in hospital administration from Baylor University. After retiring, he had successful careers as a nursing home administrator in Florida and as a realtor in Universal City, Texas. His passions were golf, RV trips, and the Spurs. He had an abiding faith and was devoted to Beitel Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school to adults and was a long-serving council president. Bob was one of those extraordinary people who could do anything well and who forever changed and enriched the lives of everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Smith), her sons Mark Schreiber (Linda) and Jeff Schreiber (Linda) and their children and grandchildren; sister Arlene and Daryl Stansbury of Olathe, KS and their children and grandchildren; and adopted daughter, Melanie Baak (Wilco). He was preceded in death by wife Roberta.
Funeral services to be held Wed, July 3 at 10:00 am at Beitel Lutheran Church, 2515 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, 78218, followed by interment with Full Military Honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beitel Lutheran Church.
