Robert “Bob” Andrew Sauer passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on January 13, 2020 at the age of 61 in San Antonio, Texas. Born in San Antonio, Texas, June 14, 1958 to Clarence and Margaret Sauer. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and studied at St. Mary’s University. He was an incredibly talented athlete and played football in high school and baseball in high school and college. He continued to play softball on adult leagues in San Antonio for many years. He worked at Flowers Bakery, formerly Butterkrust Bakery, for nearly four decades.
If you were looking for him, you would find Bob messing with his plants in the backyard; standing near or at the barbecue pit telling anyone in earshot how to properly barbecue or retelling lively stories about the good old days with a Lonestar in hand; cooking something he “just threw together in a pot”; or at the kitchen table playing canasta or tricking the naive into playing poker with him. You couldn’t go out with him without running into someone he knew and he never met a stranger..
Bob was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother-in-law. He is survived by spouse Debra Sauer; daughter Naomi Harper, husband Jim; daughter Nicole Sauer; son Chase Sauer; grandchildren Nikolai, Jameson, Lillian, and Graham; older sister Dorothy (Daniel) Cantu; younger twin sisters Shirley Ogden and Sharon (Gregory) Schmidt and numerous nieces and nephews.
