Robert Bob Eugene Lange died at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas on October 30, 2005 at the age of 74. Born in Houston, Texas on July 30, 1931, his parents were August J. and Stella Walker Lange.
Bob Lange is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Betty Whall Lange; and three children, a son Robert Eric Lange and his wife Christine Vitiello Lange of Wellesley, Massachusetts, a son Dr. Kurt C. Lange and his wife Dr. Elisa Blum Lange of Dallas, Texas, and a daughter Amanda Lange Bosse and her husband David C. Bosse of Amherst, Massachusetts. He is survived by five grandchildren, Emily Lange and Luisa Lange of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and Rebecca Lange, Adam Lange and Charles Lange of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by an uncle, Malcolm Walker of San Antonio, and an aunt, Mary Lange Green of San Antonio; and a beloved sister-in-law Frances Whall Vordenbaum of San Antonio. He is further survived by a nephew, cousins, other relatives, and many friends, especially at the Bombay Bicycle Club.
A graduate of San Antonio's Brackenridge High School in 1949, he received a Bachelors of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1953. He spent his entire career in advertising, working for several daily newspapers in Texas and Massachusetts, including the Beaumont Enterprise and Journal, San Antonio Express-News, the Houston Post, and the Boston Herald, where he held the position of Director of Advertising. Retiring in 1996, the final years of his career were spent as Marketing Director for the San Antonio Express-News.
Bob Lange campaigned in several elections and was a champion of civil rights issues. He prided himself on his work to elect Dr. Ford Nielson to San Antonio City Council and actively supported the inclusion of African-American wedding announcements in local newspapers.
Bob Lange enjoyed golfing and reading, excelled as an artist, and participated as a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church community.
