Robert was an extremely hard-working man who dedicated his life to the United States Army. He was a Combat Veteran who served in Vietnam. He completed 3 tours as a medic during his service there and he also worked to help construct the medical service corps system that the Army uses today. Upon his retirement, he was able to spend more time enjoying his hobbies and being with his family.
In his youth, his enthusiasm for rebuilding cars began and was a fondness that stayed with him throughout his life. Robert also loved coin collecting, he enjoyed 3D printing, woodworking, and learning everything he could about military history and anything to do with the military. He had a passion for gun collecting and treasured moments out on the rifle range. Robert loved giving back to the veteran community, often volunteering with the 498th Dust off Veterans Association. He also played an integral part in creating the train museum at Fort Sam Houston, consulting for them and sharing his knowledge and love of trains.
But his greatest work in this world was the family he created. Robert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. A lifelong caregiver whose serious side always gave way to show his golden heart for those he loved so dearly.
He leaves behind these loving children-daughters; Shery Adams and Michiko Hewitt, his son Robert Joseph Hewitt Jr., his grandchildren AJ Adams, Robbie Hewitt, William Hewitt, Clifford Hewitt, Diana Day, Liz Everetts, and John Scott Townsley III, and his great-grandson Hroyce Cruz. He also leaves behind his sister LaDonna Trotter and numerous, nephews, nieces, and cousins. All will cherish their amazing memories of Robert.
Robert has now reunited with his sweet loves Kimiko Hewitt and Chun Cha Hewitt, parents Clifford & Murville Hewitt, his brothers Thomas and Charles Trotter, his sisters Paula Monien and Mary Trotter.
A graveside service for Robert will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78234.
